Their Watch the Throne show is fun! Fun in the way that a movie with lots of stunts and explosions is fun. It’s not quite the right context for Kanye’s artier tracks, but that’s a small thing. I wrote about it here on Vulture.
Buried in there is a very serious question that I actually want to ask some stage techs now. If big jets of flame on a stage put off such serious heat that I can feel it on my face from a great distance, doesn’t it mess with the tuning of the guitar 20 feet away? Does a synth ever fry itself out mid-show? Mysteries.
(Shorterexcerpts replies with the simple answer that well-made instruments are, you know, well-made: “Most modern synths are more or less computers with keyboards, and likely have lots of built-in cooling for the processor anyway. I’m going to assume all the touring musicians also have locking tuners or possibly carbon-fiber body instruments.”)
